NFHS announces changes to high school wrestling ahead of 2024-25 season

The National Federation of High School Associations has made changes that affect both boys and girls wrestling in Iowa.

The new changes are similar to what was made recently in college wrestling. Takedowns go from two points to three. In addition, near fall points will be scored in two, three and four-point increments, with each point equating to each second a wrestler is held in a near fall position.

Other changes include wrestlers considered in-bounds should one have a point of contact inside the boundary line. Previously, two points of contact were needed by either wrestler to be considered in-bounds.
