Dike-New Hartford girls win 2A State Championship, Waverly-Shell Rock falls in 4A title game

Two area girls basketball teams played for state titles at the State Basketball Tournament on Saturday.

Clear Creek-Amana defeated Waverly-Shell Rock, 43-25, in the Class 4A championship. 

Clear Creek-Amana held Waverly-Shell Rock to just seven field goals and 14-percent shooting while blocking 10 shots. It was the first loss of the season for the Go-Hawks, who finished their season 25-1.

Dike-New Hartford defeated Panorama, 48-46, in the Class 2A title game, becoming just the second school in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union era to win four consecutive titles.

Payton Petersen led the Wolverines with 27 points and 14 rebounds and was named the All-Tournament Team captain for a fourth straight year.
