One man has died and three others, two of them teens, were injured after a crash on Highway 218 in Bremer County near Janesville on Monday morning. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 71-year-old Gregory Harter of Fairbank was killed in the crash when a 14-year-old driving a Chevy Impala driver’s education car crossed into the northbound lanes around 8:30 AM. The report says that the 14-year-old dropped onto the shoulder of the road, then overcorrected the steering wheel and crossed over to the northbound lanes and through the median, hitting a car driven by 44-year-old Tabetha Gehrke of Waterloo. Harter, the mayor of Fairbank, was killed in the crash. Gehrke, the 14-year-old driver, and another 14-year-old were all injured and taken to area hospitals. The patrol crash report says all four people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.
