Cedar Falls Fireworks Usage Can Start Sunday

Howard: "Window of Opportunity" for Fireworks for the 4th

If you’re a resident of Cedar Falls, or have driven around the community in the past month or so, you’ve seen “fireworks usage” signs posted by the city at many intersections. Last month, the Cedar Falls City Council lifted a long-standing ban on using fireworks on private property within the city. The ordinance is similar to an ordinance adopted in Waterloo, and the two councils jointly discussed how to adopt a similar measure for Cedar Falls. On designated hours, July 3rd and 5th, fireworks can be used between noon and 10:00PM, on the 4th, from noon to 11:00PM.

Cedar Falls acting Police Chief Mark Howard says the signs around town around are all part of an “education campaign” for residents.

Howard says there will be penalties for those using fireworks outside the set times.

Howard says so far, the campaign seems to be effective.

Again, the fine for first offense violation is $375, for second offense, it’s $500, and for a third violation, it’s $1,000.
