Berte Named Cedar Falls Public Safety Director

On Monday night, the Cedar Falls City Council, on a 5-2 vote, approved the appointment of Craig Berte as the city’s Public Safety Director. He has been in an acting director role since long time director Jeff Olson retired in March. After the meeting, Berte said he’s pleased with this role.
Berte, who has been on the force since 1991, says they’ll continue the work of the Public Safety Department, but there are some other new ideas he’s like to see considered in the future.
The City of Cedar Falls says he will assume the new position this Saturday (June 25th). Berte will be overseeing the hiring process for a new Police Chief. Captain Mark Howard has been serving as the acting Police Chief at this time.
