Five area teams competing at boys State Basketball Tournament this week

The high school boys State Basketball Tournament begins today at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines with Class 1A quarterfinals and a pair of Class 2A quarterfinals.

Five Metro or Area teams are competing in this week’s tournaments.

In Class 1A quarterfinals, 

This afternoon at 2, 7-seed Gladbrook-Reinbeck goes against 2-seed Marquette Catholic.

The Rebels are 21-5, while the Defenders are 25-1.

In Class 2A quarterfinals,

Tomorrow morning at 10:30, North Iowa Cedar League rivals face off as 2-seed Hudson takes on 7-seed Grundy Center.

The Pirates are 23-2, while the Spartans are 20-3.

In Class 3A quarterfinals,

Tomorrow night at 7:15, 2-seed Waverly-Shell Rock takes on 7-seed Pella.

The Go-Hawks are 20-3, while The Dutch are 15-9.

In Class 4A quarterfinals,

Wednesday afternoon at 3:45, 3-seed Cedar Falls faces 6-seed Bettendorf.

The Tigers are 20-3 overall, while the Bulldogs are 17-6.
