Young Panthers to Be Tested Early

Another young squad will be taking the court for UNI volleyball this season, and they will be tested early. Panther coach Bobbi Petersen says that this may be one of the more inexperience teams she’s fielded in her time in Cedar Falls.

According to Petersen, the Panthers have had seven players leave the program prior to using up all their eligibility over the past two seasons. She says that makes it difficult to build depth.

Last fall, UNI won a share of the Missouri Valley Conference title, but were left out of the NCAA Tournament field for the first time in eight years. Petersen says that’s a fact that has pushed this year’s team.

UNI will play one of the tougher non-conference schedules in the country. The Panthers face three of the country’s top 25 teams in the first two weeks of the season.

Petersen says there’s a good chance the Panthers will be a very different team at the end of the season than they are when they open competition next weekend.

The Panthers open the season at a tournament in Saint Louis next weekend.
